Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who are first-time authors?

We consider first-time authors to be writers with unpublished work or any work published under contract agreements. We will unlikely publish any works that are currently cataloged or published by a vanity press or another publisher.

Q: Will a DemmeHouse author be published under an agreement?

Yes, accepted authors will sign a two-year publisher-author agreement.

Q: What is expected of a new DemmeHouse author?

First, we expect honesty. Secondly, we expect hard work. As we roll up our sleeves, we expect authors to do the same to help promote their work. A DemmeHouse author is expected to give as much as she expects to receive in return. Like any partnership, this is a win-win!

Q: Why do you only accept women at DemmeHouse?

Since the beginning of her career, the founder has been inspired to encourage creative works by women. Women are equipped with a unique voice. Striving to discover the voices of talented women is a personal response to that inner-calling.

Q: Do you offer advanced book deals? If not, please explain.

Because we are selective with the books we publish, it is our preference to discover authors that care more about the quality of their work rather than what they can financially gain from it. Eliminating advanced book deals helps to prove the authenticity of the books and artisan products we accept and choose to promote.

Q: Why do you accept authors without literary representation?

Statistics have shown the battle many new authors face when shopping for a literary agent. If this is the case, then imagine the number of large publishing houses that accept first-time authors. DemmeHouse is eager to help with this growing trend by creating new opportunities.

Q: What subject material are you most interested in?
