Submissions

DemmeHouse does not accept unsolicited manuscripts. However, we welcome first-time authors to submit a query letter and a book proposal for consideration. We do not require authors to have literary representation before making a submission. We also encourage authors to send multiple queries to additional book publishers.
During the submission process, we do not accept inquiries from authors who wish to know the status of their book proposal. Authors are contacted by mail with a response. For all submissions that accompany a SASE, we will respond by letter within 6 - 10 weeks.
A query letter is requested to accompany a book proposal. The letter should be precise and prompt our review of what is written and not how it’s written. A well-written query letter should capture one’s attention and leave a lasting impression.
While an author’s manuscript may be incomplete at the time of making a query submission, a book proposal will guide our decision based on the information provided.
A proposal should include the following: a title page, content overview, synopsis for each chapter, target audience, writer’s background/bio, writer’s marketing plan, 3 or 4 random chapters, and a SASE to receive a response. We cannot mail a response or return any materials, unless sufficient postage is provided.
